Second Day of WYSE

Another exhausting day in DC. But it was so worth it. We traveled as a group to the Smithsonian National Zoo an then a moonlit monument tour.

There was such a diverse collection of animals housed at the zoo, and they were all happy where they were. All the enclosures were huge with decorations and furniture specially suited to them. I think I got a bit to awestruck at how beautiful everything was.

I also got to listen to a wonderful speaker, Dr. Jess Siegal-Willott, who taught us about how she became a veterinarian doing fieldwork in Africa. She helped in the effort of African Elephant conservation using her knowledge on anesthesia and elephants.

Us youth delegates also had the chance to ask questions to a panel of curators and keepers at the zoo. A reptile keeper, primate curator and a big cats curator. These professionals were so knowledgeable. They taught us how reputable zoos do a lot for animal conservation and environmental efforts. Zoos fund a lot of critical field work for research, this helps scientists and professors protect wildlife all around the globe and rehabilitate endangered species or learn of animals habits in the wild. This was so cool to learn and i hope others feel the same way in knowing how zoos help the planet.

Last but not least, we went on a tour to the World War II monument, Lincoln Memorial and White House. The sun was setting as it tried to rain but it was all good as we visited these landmarks of our countries capital. It was inspiring standing there and seeing what our country was built upon.

I cant wait to see what tomorrow has in store.
